Lined Curtains

You need proper sleep for good health, and lined curtains can help keep the sun from waking you too early on those sunny summer mornings. If you don't get enough sleep regularly, your body will develop stress and illness. Most people don't have trouble getting enough sleep at night (unless they work night shift), but it's easy to fall out of a sleep routine, if you don't have a dark, quiet room.

For third shift workers, it's essential to have lined drapes in their rooms, so that they can sleep in the daytime. Well-insulated drapes can help keep out light and noise, and can make a room comfortable for day sleeping. Bedroom curtains with linings will keep extraneous noises and light sources outside, so that you can get proper sleep.

For other rooms that get too much sunlight on warm summer days, you can use lined drapes instead of thinner drapes, sheers or blinds. This will help to keep your house cooler in the summer, and it will make your home more energy-efficient, since your air conditioner won't have to work as hard to keep the house cool. Most curtain linings also have thermal insulation, to keep the air inside cool in the summer and warm in the winter. And their sound insulation properties will help keep out street and road noise, and the noise of children playing outside from intruding into your home.

If you have trouble sleeping, you may even want to go a step further than regular lined curtains and add blackout linings to your draperies. This will keep your room even darker, especially useful if you have to sleep days.

Make sure that you supplement your lined draperies with pillows and a comforter that fit with the temperature you strive for in the bedroom. If you become too cold or too hot when you're sleeping, it may wake you up. In addition, you'll want the room to look well-decorated when it's not being used.

Lined drapes may be more expensive than sheers or unlined drapes, because they have the extra layer. But you may make up the cost difference in energy savings if you live in a cold climate, since your house temperature will stay regulated more than it would with regular draperies.

You can find lined drapes at retail stores, and discount stores locally. They will usually have at least some variety of colors and styles in lined drapes. Some of these may not be high quality curtains, so check the drapes and prices online, too, to get the most for your money. Some interior design stores will also offer a selection of curtains, both lined and unlined.

The Internet is a great place to find low prices on lined drapes that may be last year's fashion or discontinued styles. You can also find top quality draperies online, but, just like the interior design stores, you will pay more for the best quality. There are many websites to find information about various types of curtains, too, and they offer many different varieties. Look for sites with competitive prices, and select the lined curtains that are the best for your home.
